
A modern family oriented museum with exciting exhibitions mostly focusing on local history. The museum is in the oldest part of town in the beautiful museum garden with a wonderful 19th century church next to the museum Nonni’s house. Three to four exhibitions on display and friendly staff eager to answer your questions. Among our exhibitions are:
Akureyri- the town by the bay which depicts the history of the town with unique artefacts relating to everyday life from the 19th century to the present day.

Land Ahoy! – Antique maps of Iceland 1507-1847 – Schulte Collection. Exquisite maps that reveal how the image of the island evolved. Don’t miss the interactive cartographer’s room or the sea monsters. – annual exhibition May - September
The Christmas exhibition Focusing on local Christmas traditions and the 89 Yule lads. Take a look inside their amazing mountain. – annual exhibition November-January
