Christmas bells from the 1940's
Christmas bells from the 1940's

Christmas decorations were confined to candles and simple homemade Christmas trees until late in the 19th century when stores started to import such commodities. These beautiful red bells made of plaster were sold for charity by a local women‘s association in the 1940's. The bells were both sold with or without coating and decorated many houses for decades and probably still do.

Akureyri Museum's Christmas Exhibition is open daily from 13-16.
