Discover incredibly rare maps of Iceland at the Akureyri Museum's exhibition "Unique Icelandic Maps 1535-1849." These maps are truly one-of-a-kind, with many not found anywhere else in the world. The exhibition features the rarest maps from a large collection donated to Akureyri in 2014.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary, Karl-Werner Schulte has brought 13 "new maps," which are also the oldest maps of Iceland.
Not only are these maps beautiful to look at, but they also tell fascinating stories. Among the exhibits are maps based on lies, maps that were part of a deck of cards, secret maps, and even a map illustrating a bad day at work. The love story of the map collection's donors is also intertwined with the historical maps.
Join Haraldur Þór, the museum director, and Karl-Werner Schulte, the donor of the maps, as they share the intriguing stories behind these historical maps.
Don't miss this opportunity to explore these extraordinary pieces of history!
